FIRST SATURDAY - Our Blessed Mother, in her appearance to the children at Fatima, Portugal in 1917 repeated the same message every month for six months, May through October - say the Rosary every day. In another revelation (to Lucia) Mary promised, at the hour of death, all graces necessary for salvation to those who practice the devotion for the First Saturday of five consecutive months. The First Saturday Devotion consists of : 1) going to Confession, 2) receiving Holy Communion, 3) reciting five decades of the Rosary and 4) spending 15 minutes with Our Lady meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary all with the intention of making reparation to her. Every month at OLGC on the first Saturday parishioners pray the Rosary as a group following the 8:45 am Mass. All are invited to participate this Saturday, July 5th. SUMMER MASS SCHEDULE - There is only one daily Mass which will be celebrated at 8:45 am. On July 6th the 10:30 am Sunday Mass moves to the church. All Sunday Masses will be celebrated in the church during July and August. DRESS FOR SUMMER - Please be conscious of the way you dress for Mass during the summer. Short shorts or bare shoulders are not respectful to God or to your fellow worshipers. There is a certain modesty and gentility that the Sacrifice of the Mass calls for. Thank you. GAINING THE PAULINE PLENARY INDULGENCE ON JUNE 28/29 - The Holy Father has granted an opportunity for the faithful to gain a Plenary Indulgence on this Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul in observance of the Pauline Year. The Indulgence may be gained once a day under the usual conditions (i.e. sacramental Confession, freedom from all attachment to sin, Eucharistic Communion and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father), if one participates in a religious function or in a pious exercise (viz. Mass) held publicly in honor of the Apostle of the Gentiles, concluding with the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer, the Profession of Faith (i.e. Creed), and an Invocation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Paul the Apostle, closely linking such acts of devotion to the memory of the Prince of the Apostles, Saint Peter (e.g. Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Apostles, pray for us. Saints Peter and Paul, pray for us). This indulgence may be applied to the deceased.
Baptisms . “ ... you are Peter.” In today’s Gospel, and uniquely on today’s feast, the Church is reminded of the supremacy of Saint Peter. There are hints spread throughout the Gospel, but none is as determinative as this Gospel. The power Christ bestows on Peter is unique to him and Saint Peter becomes the human foundation of the Church based on Christ’s gift. Are you willing to follow the successor of Saint Peter as he guides us to Christ’s eternal kingdom? If so, you may have a priestly or religious vocation. Pray for the intercession of the canonized/beatified popes, as well as the health and long life of our current Holy Father and ...........
