PASTORAL ASSOCIATE FOR YOUTH

My name is Matthew DeCaux and I am the youth minister here at OLGC. I am a graduate of St. Peter’s College with a Bachelor of Arts in history and a minor in theology. I have been involved with the youth ministry program here at the parish since 2004. Since then, I have had the chance to witness many amazing things with the youth group. I have watched how many of the teenagers have changed their lives and how they have made God the center of their lives. We have two youth groups here at the parish. We have our High School Youth group, consisting of grades 9-12 and our Junior High Youth group consisting of grades 7-8.

One common question that people ask me is, “Why is it important that the parish have a youth group?” My answer has and always will be the same, because our youth are the future leaders of our church and of our world. Our youth group meets every Wednesday evening and allows the teenagers to have a chance to talk about their lives and their faith. They have the chance to learn about why having God in their lives is so important. We sing songs of praise to God and discuss topics that are important in their lives. To sum all of this up, the goal of our youth ministry program is to make the love of God appear to the teenagers in a powerful and dynamic way.
